Traditional and other methods

Picture
I also welcome and have much experience teaching more traditional students, both beginners and those at various levels of advancement who may not fit into the Suzuki system or need a more modified approach, as well as advanced student levels. I often use much music from the Suzuki repertoire, in part because I am so familiar with it, but also because the selection and sequence of skills, as well as the quality of the music has not really been replicated anywhere else. Curriculum includes scales, level appropriate exercises and etudes, and pieces from standard literature and is specifically geared toward meeting the needs and goals of the student.

Other styles

While the majority of students study in what would be considered a classical music approach, which would give a solid technical foundation, I always welcome the opportunity to include music in other styles and genres that the student may desire. I have done quite a bit of playing in less traditional music styles as well as improvisation and I am always willing to share and encourage anyone that is interested in those areas. As a teacher, my goal is to work with the student as an individual to find the curriculum and learning approach that would suit them best.

While many of my students are pre-school or school age, I have enjoyed having many adult students who have played years ago and want to take it back up again, or even some first timers who have had learning the violin on their bucket list. It is never too late to give it a try.

Regardless of the method and approach we use, I hold to Shinichi Suzuki's belief that all students do have the ability to learn, if we create the right environment. My goal is to create a positive and encouraging one.
